Blog 2: Notes from lecture on Mise-en-scene

Date: 07/09/2016, Lecture number: 1 (continued)

This is our first core lecture on Mise-en-scėne and an introduction to future lectures:

For this lecture I have taken notes in the class. I then yesterday 09/09/2016 I looked up and studied the lecture on Moodle. What I have learned from this is:

·         The visual language of aesthetics of film and a detailed description of these

·         Cinematic composition

·         Dimensions of a frame and details on these

·         Shot size and the reasons for choosing a shot size

·         Proxemics

·         Basic cinematic vocabulary

What I took from the main points of the lecture was; how to create the scene; that everything in the scene should be there for a reason, technical considerations make the scene interesting, context, perception.

Also, discussed was a future lecture on Continuity: this involved considerations of the flow of the images, distortion, the planning of each shot, storyboard and production lists. The objective is to have maximum effectiveness and to make sure you have all the footage you need.

Also, discussed also was DSR’s and interchangeable lenses which can have a huge effect on the shoot, zoom lenses, pace of edit, language of interpretation, visual language to convey a narrative.
